Georgianna Gutierrez came to the Business Support Center at Adams State College on April 18, 2002.  She met with Business Advisor Jason Neufeld, who began working her through the process of creating a business plan.  Gutierrez needed a business plan for two big reasons:  to sort out all of her thoughts and plans for her new business and to organize her finances.  Now, five months later, Gutierrez feels as if she has accomplished all that and more.

From April of 2002 to mid-July 2002, Gutierrez and Neufeld met a half dozen times to create the business plan.  Gutierrez received direct consultation from the center as well as computer assistance and business plan formatting.  Through this process, Gutierrez learned much about professional presentation as well as business plan formation.

Gutierrez surprised herself with the strategy she developed as she surveyed the competition, planned for her location, outlined her marketing strategy, and detailed her management approach.  She went from an individual with a lot of ideas to a well-prepared entrepreneur.

Georgie’s Barber Shop, located in downtown Alamosa, CO, has shown every sign of success during its first months of existence.  Gutierrez remains very grateful to the assistance she received from the Business Support Center.  Although she did not end up needing a loan for start-up costs, Gutierrez was more confident and collected as she entered her new venture.
