Am I Eligible?
| As a general
rule, grant programs do not offer capital to start a day care or a
coffee shop, nor do they provide grants to individuals who
will use the proceeds to start their own for-profit business. If you
fit into this category, you're wasting your time pursuing large-scale
grant funding. By far, most grants are awarded to federal agencies, governmental bodies, colleges and universities, and research organizations..these are whom grant programs were originially intended to help. Grant funding organizations generally target their assistance towards specific groups, types of organizations or activities; grants provided by SBA are normally given to non-profits or educational institutions. However, you may be eligible for specific project-related or educational grant programs. If you are undertaking a specific research and development project, you may want to read up on the SBIR and/or the STTR federal grant programs. You can also research specific areas in which you need funding, or contact the center for a free consultation. |
