Adams State College’s Business Support Center (BSC) is located in Alamosa, Colorado and serves the entire San Luis Valley, which includes six counties in South Central Colorado.

While having significant natural and cultural strengths, the valley suffers distress from high unemployment rates, low average income levels and a relatively low business base. As a result of low-income levels and few employment opportunities in the area, many people raised in the Valley strive to open a business or are forced to leave the Valley and their families in order to obtain employment.

The unemployment rate in the San Luis Valley averages 7.5%, while during that same time period the statewide unemployment rate is only 3.4% . Two of the lowest per capita income counties, Conejos and Costilla, are located in the San Luis Valley. While the SLV has good economic potential based on agriculture, art and other resources, the types of development have so far has not been enough to lift over a quarter of its population out of poverty.

The BSC provides free and confidential business assistance in the area to potential and existing business owners. The BSC’s goal is to help sustain existing businesses and provide support to potential entrepreneurs. Your contribution will enable the center to provide direct assistance to individuals seeking to become business owners and eventually, in many cases, employers. A free business planning guide will be given to each donor.
